Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for planning and evaluating rig operations
   • Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements
   • Access, interpret and apply plan and evaluate rig operations documentation and confirm work activity is compliant
   • Identify and minimise environmental issues and potential hazards, and assess and address risks within scope of own role and according to workplace procedures
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment required for work activities
   • Confirm personnel coordination requirements at the site are met prior to commencement of work activities
   • Identify financial and insurance implications of non-conformance and notify appropriate personnel and authorities as required
2. Evaluate and establish risk management strategies
   • Identify role and legal responsibilities of rig managers, supervisors and personnel and implement measures to manage responsibilities
   • Examine, interpret and implement processes for regulations, code of practice and specific site manuals
   • Access, interpret and apply understanding of auditing workplace hazards, evaluate findings and implement control measures
   • Establish on-site meeting processes for communicating and resolving safety issues with personnel and required authorities
   • Evaluate rig operations and performance, communicate with client and implement changes as required
   • Identify and implement coaching and mentoring arrangements and design required training and corrective strategies for performance issues
3. Implement rig safety compliance system
   • Identify and implement site communication requirements
   • Identify and demonstrate radio communication strategies and reporting techniques
   • Maintain systems, written records and reporting procedures according to workplace requirements
   • Identify and investigate non-conformances, report and implement corrective strategies

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

plan and evaluate rig operations on at least two occasions, including:

identifying and allocating roles and responsibilities

implementing operational changes where required

monitoring personnel performance

applying and monitoring rig performance

communicating with client.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply legislation, documentation, policies and procedures required for planning and evaluating rig operations

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for planning and evaluating rig operations, including:

identifying, addressing and reporting potential hazards and risks

applying emergency response plan and procedures

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues

identifying and reviewing all financial and insurance implications

establishing communication processes

applying training strategies to improve performance

maintaining systems, written records and reports

identifying and addressing non-conformances

work with others to plan and evaluate rig operations to meet required outcomes, including:

preparing for and organising work activities to meet task requirements

communicating with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and aids to advise others of work activity and exclusion zones.

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:
