Elements and Performance Criteria

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

plan and evaluate rig operations on at least two occasions, including:

identifying and allocating roles and responsibilities

implementing operational changes where required

monitoring personnel performance

applying and monitoring rig performance

communicating with client.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply legislation, documentation, policies and procedures required for planning and evaluating rig operations

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for planning and evaluating rig operations, including:

identifying, addressing and reporting potential hazards and risks

applying emergency response plan and procedures

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues

identifying and reviewing all financial and insurance implications

establishing communication processes

applying training strategies to improve performance

maintaining systems, written records and reports

identifying and addressing non-conformances

work with others to plan and evaluate rig operations to meet required outcomes, including:

preparing for and organising work activities to meet task requirements

communicating with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and aids to advise others of work activity and exclusion zones.


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

communication strategies relevant to planning and evaluating rig operations

key legislation required for planning and evaluating rig operations, including:

legal responsibilities of rig managers, supervisors and personnel

financial and insurance implications

key policies, procedures and established requirements for planning and evaluating rig operations, including those for:

planning, programming and preparing for rig operations

environmental issues

work health and safety

implementing a rig safety compliance system

auditing workplace hazards

rig performance and operations

coaching, mentoring and training applications

communication techniques relevant to work activities.
